Reading 2 emphasizes the importance of lifestyle choices and how these choices affect our health. One important lifestyle choice for good health is our diet - what we eat each day. Read about and reflect on dietary recommendations and analyze your own habits.
Reading Strategy: Personalizing
Thinking about how new information applies to your own life can help you better understand the reading.1. Read about the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans and think about your own diet.
2. Answer the following questions in the blog post by Tuesday, September 19th at 11:59 pm. Click "Enter your commentt" and then type your answers. Use at least two vocabulary words from this unit in your responses.
a) How often do you eat fruit, vegetables, and dairy products?
b) Do you drink the recommended amount of water? What else do you drink when you are thirsty?
c) What changes could you make in order to improve your diet?
3. After you have responded to the questions, read at least one other student's responses and write a thoughtful and respectful comment about what they wrote by Wednesday, September 20th at 1:00 pm.

4) Complete the Mayo Clinic Heart Disease Risk Calculator test, then analyze your results. What can you do in order to have a healthier lifestyle? Make a list of steps you can do to achieve this goal.

ReplyDeleteb) Yes, I do.After I finish my exercises, I will drink some sports drinks which is more helpful than water to my body.
c) In order to improve my diet, I think maybe two factors should be taken into account in our mind: one is to eat more vegetables and fruits every day, and the other is to limit high fat, hypersaline or oily foods from our daily lives.
It seems that you have a healthy lifestyle.
DeleteTotally agree with you Weiwei Chen. I think I will probably have a big garden next to my house where I will be growing vegetables and fruits. It will be awesome!😋🥗 However I recommend you do not drink that much energy drinks. Let your body rest naturally after your exercises. You can have some water, but don't let your body be dependent of any kind of energetic substance. I prefer natural energy☺

ReplyDeleteb) No, I don't drink recommended amount of water every day. When I am thirsty, I drink orange juice and milk.
c) From my perspective, I will limit calories from fried food in order to avoid cholesterol. Besides, it is key for me to shift to healthier food. Fruits is to our health is what water to fish. More attention should be aimed at low-fat food.
I think milk and juice cannot be as proper drinks when you are thirsty.

ReplyDeletea- Fruits and vegetables are very important for me. I have them every single day as part of my meals. I love broccoli, spinach, beans pickle and carrot by the way. As fruit I like banana, pears, watermelon and kiwi. I eat grapes and berries (strawberry, blackberry, blueberry) sometimes, but not often.
ReplyDeleteb- Sometimes I drink more than a gallon of water a day, and sometimes I don't. However I love drinking water in the morning and on my way to bed. That aims to make me feel very light, but I urinate and sweat a lot. I also like soymilk, coconut water, coconut milk, apple juice, and I love lemonade.
C- In order to improve my diet, I will emphasize my need for eating more vegetable as I can, and
I'll run away from fast foods and restaurants, consume less salt, stop all sources of cholesterol like oil as I stopped cheese. Also, I'll try do not buy anything containing High Fructose Corn Syrup as preventive measure.

DeleteI sometimes eat fruit, almost everyday try to eat vegetables and also sometimes eat dairy products. I believe those are good effective to us.

I drink not much except water.
The same idea and you. I think you need to reduce the amount of alcohol to maintain good health.

DeleteA- I usually eat fruit, vegetables and dairy products for three days. B- I usually do not drink the recommended amount of water when I'm thirsty I will drink any water. C- I will be based on some recommendations to improve my own diet. Do not eat fried, high fat, high salt food.

Stevo400, water is a key element for your body, but I'm not sure that any kind of coke/pop/soda are actually good for you. I think you should eliminate Coca Cola from your list of drink.

B. I'm not sure how much I drink water in a day. I used to drink juice and pop. But now, I only drink water. I shifted this behavior about 5 years ago
C. I might eat less snacks in order to reduce taking cholesterol.
I agree with you. Drinking water is healthier than drinking juice.

ReplyDeleteb) No, I didn't drink a lot of water in a day. Sometimes I was too busy to think of drinking water. Therefore, I feel guilty about drinking little water. Besides drinking water, sometimes I will drink some tea, milk, or some apple juice when I was thirsty.
c) To improve my diet, I will drink more water and switch the sweets to some healthy food. Recording what I eat and how much water do i drink is an effective way to improve my diet.
It is quite common for us to have less time to drink water. However, more attention should be paid to drinking water rather than drinking juice.

ReplyDelete2.a. I eat fruits everyday specially more bananas, oranges and grapes and perhaps 3 or 4 time I take dairy products per week. However I eat rarely vegetable, may be 1 time per 2 weeks.
b. I drink between 0.5 liters and 1 liters everyday and I drink about 0.5 liters juice everyday.
c. I project to eat more various fruit and mostly eat more vegetable and drink water. I think also that exercise can help me to eliminate more cholesterol. Do not eat too more the night.
You are right Sessinou about point as eating more fruits and vegetables to improve your diet. However, run away the restaurants is debatable. I think, it is not the real strategy because some restaurants are excellent in diet.
